Calling all composers! Liminal Space Ensemble is excited to announce our very first call for scores. 

 

One winner will have their work performed and recorded by Liminal Space Ensemble in their 2022-2023 season as well as receive a small honorarium of $250 USD. 

 

Deadline for submission is June 15th at 5PM Eastern. No late submissions will be accepted.

 

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES: 

  • There is no application fee to apply. 

  • Submitted works must be written in the last 3 years. 

  • Submitted works can be for two to ten players.

  • Open to any instrumentation within our current roster detailed below.

  • Duration length must be under 10 minutes.

    • Movements from longer works are eligible.

    • Please only include the score and recording for the movements being considered in your submission.

  • Works may include multimedia elements including tape playback, sound processing, and/or visual elements.

  • Scores must be submitted in PDF form. 

  • Live performance recording preferred, MIDI files are accepted and will not affect your application. MP3 preferred. Audio and performance quality is not an evaluative factor. 

  • Must be 18 or older. No additional age limits apply.

  • Composers should self-identify as "emerging"

    • Our rule of thumb: If you think you identify as emerging, we believe you.

  • Composers of all nationalities are encouraged to apply.


 

ELIGIBLE INSTRUMENTATION:

 

One player per instrument unless noted. Auxiliary instruments only available if explicitly listed.

 

Flute/piccolo, oboe, clarinet/bass clarinet, violin (2), viola, cello (2), double bass, harp (2), percussion (2)*

 

*We can accommodate most percussion requests except five octave marimba and timpani. If you have questions or would like to speak to our percussionists about instrument availability, please email liminalspaceensemble@gmail.com

 

EVALUATION PROCESS: 

 

Works will be evaluated by our co-directors and composer-in-residence on a rubric system in three categories: accessibility, production difficulty, and fit with LSE's mission.
